Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are getting through the last of the weeks of winter but we still are relying on our furnaces, especially during cool nights. Not much is worse than going to bed at night just to realize your furnace won’t kick on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are some things you can check yourself prior to calling Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters each month. If you do not, they can become clogged, obstructing air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the heating system won’t turn on. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but make sure the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so verify the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your heating equipment will still not start up, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 440-252-1375 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
