What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Cleveland always writes about how our service techs are NATE-certified, and while it sounds encouraging, what does it truly mean?

NATE is the acronym for North American Technician Excellence and, according to their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed by and has been supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all technicians in the industry are required to be certified by NATE. The certification is optional and technicians can service heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment without being certified by NATE.

It’s important to Service Experts that our experts are NATE-certified to ensure we are sending the most qualified and skilled technicians into your home. To make sure professionals meet these standards, the NATE-certification tests validate real-world working knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems for technicians. The exams are knowledge-based exams that assess the technician’s knowledge of these criteria.

Since Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification and not refrigeration, there are only certain areas pertinent to our technicians. NATE assessment candidates may receive installation and/or service certification in one or more of the skill areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
